Government has declared Tuesday, July 28, 2026, a public holiday to enable citizens to participate in the nationwide election of Local Council I (LCI) chairpersons.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Friday, July 24, by the Uganda Media Centre Executive Director Alan Kasujja.
Kasujja said the public holiday is intended to give all eligible Ugandans an opportunity to take part in the village-level elections.
“To enable you to participate in the Local Council Elections, 28th July, 2026 is a Public Holiday,” Kasujja said in the brief statement.
The nationwide election of LCI chairpersons is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with voters expected to elect leaders who will represent them at the village level.
The Local Council I structures serve as the grassroots administrative units responsible for community leadership, local dispute resolution, and linking citizens with government programmes and services.
