Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) has recognised 16 agents and 10 units for their performance in customer retention, investment mobilisation and financial literacy during the first half of 2026.
The Agents Incentive Awards, held at Hotel Africana, celebrated agents who contributed to attracting new investors and helping existing customers maintain their investments between January and June 2026.
Edmund Tumwesiga emerged as the top performer in customer retention, retaining customer investments worth Shs 12.36 billion. Daniel Gatsinzi was named second runner-up, with Shs 8.5 billion in retained investments. Both received overseas trips in recognition of their performance.
The awards were held against the backdrop of continued growth in Uganda’s unit trust market, with OMIG maintaining a significant share of industry assets.
Presenting the company’s business performance for the first two quarters of 2026, Daniel Opiyo, Head of Marketing and Business Development at OMIG, said the firm’s assets under management reached Shs 4.14 trillion at the end of June, representing 58.5 per cent of the market.
The company’s assets under management increased by Shs 306.1 billion between March and June, an increase of approximately eight per cent, according to the presentation.
Industry-wide unit trust assets also grew during the period, rising from Shs 6.26 trillion in March to Shs 7.08 trillion at the end of June.
The figures underscore the expanding role of unit trusts in Uganda’s investment market and the importance of agents in connecting customers to investment products and supporting them throughout their investment journey.
Zac Kisesi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group, said agents played a central role in attracting new clients, maintaining existing relationships and building investor confidence.
“Our agents contribute directly to the growth of our business by bringing in new clients and helping existing customers stay engaged with their investments. That contribution is built on trust. Every clear explanation, every question answered and every follow-up helps strengthen a customer’s confidence in us. These awards recognise the agents whose dedication continues to earn that trust and support our growth,” Kisesi said.
Certificates were presented in four categories: Agents with the Most Clients per Month, Top 10 Units in Net Client Cash Flow (NCCF), Best Agents in NCCF Monthly, and Best Agents in NCCF Overall for January to June 2026.
Opiyo said agents played an important role in helping prospective investors understand their options and make informed financial decisions.
“For many people, the decision to start investing begins with a conversation with an agent. Our responsibility is to make that conversation useful: understand what the customer wants to achieve, explain the options clearly and help them make an informed choice. Financial literacy is part of that everyday work, and following up after a customer joins is just as important as bringing them on board,” Opiyo said.
He added that OMIG would continue to focus on customer retention and quarterly agent training in product knowledge and skills.
The training is intended to strengthen agents’ ability to explain investment products, improve customer understanding and support long-term relationships with investors.
The recognition programme highlights the contribution of the agency network to OMIG’s business performance as Uganda’s unit trust market continues to expand.
