Police have arrested a 26-year-old man found in possession of an illegal AK-47 rifle following a targeted security operation in Kyengera.
The suspect, identified as Vicent Kimbugwe, also known as Kasumali, was apprehended after officers acted on a tip-off from the public.
A search at his residence in Massanda Cell, Kyengera Town Council, led to the recovery of the firearm.
According to Rachael Kawala, the rifle was found in a rusted condition with its serial number not clearly visible.
“The firearm, which appears rusted with an obscured serial number, has been sent to our forensic laboratory for specialised analysis. The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue,” she said.
Police have commended local authorities and residents for their cooperation, noting that community vigilance remains key in fighting crime.
