The swearing-in of Members of the 12th Parliament will take place from May 13 to May 15, 2026, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among has announced.
The announcement follows last week’s general elections, which resulted in a significant reshaping of Uganda’s legislature, with several long-serving Members of Parliament—including cabinet ministers who had held their seats for more than a decade—losing their positions.
“The swearing-in ceremony of the Members of the 12th Parliament will take place from 13th to 15th May 2026,” Speaker Among said.
Candidates who have filed election petitions are expected to utilise the period before May 13 to pursue and resolve their legal challenges through the courts, in accordance with electoral laws.
The ceremony will formally usher in the 12th Parliament, which is expected to feature a blend of experienced legislators and new entrants, reflecting the evolving political landscape in the country.
