Police have released a comprehensive traffic management plan for the presidential nomination exercise scheduled for 23 and 24 September 2025 at the Electoral Commission Head Office Grounds in Lubowa, Makindye-Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.
The plan is aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and enhanced security as candidates present their nomination papers for the 2026 Presidential Elections.
According to SP Michael Kananura, PRO – Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, several routing, parking, and diversion arrangements have been put in place.
“We urge the general public and participants in the nomination exercise to follow directions from traffic and security officers on duty, exercise patience and discipline, and adhere strictly to parking designations and route diversions,” he said.
The designated route to the venue from Kampala City Center will be via Yusuf Lule Road, Mulago traffic lights, City Mortuary traffic lights, Kubbiri traffic lights, Bwaise Flyover, Northern Bypass, Busega roundabout, Kajjansi Flyover, Old Entebbe Road, and Lweza Fuelex–Kigo Road junction.
Parking at the main venue will be restricted to presidential aspirants, while invited guests will use St. Joseph’s Church of Uganda, Lweza.
Key traffic diversions will be activated if necessary at points including Kisubi, Kajjansi Flyover, Lweza Fuelex junction, Kigo Rehabilitation Center, and Kigo Furniture junction.
Residents in affected areas will be allowed to move in and out using special stickers provided by security.
“Traffic Police will hold traffic flow at other road junctions and access roads according to the movement of candidates. All diversions will start at 5:00 am on the 23rd and 24th of September until the end of the exercise. No boda boda rider will be allowed beyond the cut-off points,” SP Kananura cautioned.
He added that any person who contravenes the stipulated guidelines will face action under traffic laws and regulations.
The police advised motorists to plan their journeys early to avoid inconvenience and reminded sticker holders to display them clearly for identification by security personnel.
