Police in Kira Division have arrested a suspected notorious attacker believed to be behind a series of robberies targeting residents in Kyaliwajjala and surrounding areas.
The suspect, identified as James Lumu, was arrested on June 18, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation in Kyaliwajjala Kapeera following investigations into a violent robbery incident in which a victim was attacked using a blunt object suspected to be a paving block (paver).
The arrest followed a robbery incident that occurred on June 16, 2026, at about 8:00pm in Nabwojjo, Kyaliwajjala B Zone, where Tenywa Daniel, 23, a resident of Kiwanga, Mukono District, was attacked and robbed of his mobile phone.
According to police, investigations into the incident led detectives to Lumu, who was identified as a key suspect in the attack and other alleged criminal activities in the area.
Police said the suspect has been linked to a number of robbery incidents reported in Kyaliwajjala and neighbouring areas, where victims have allegedly been attacked using blunt objects before their valuables are taken.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Public Relations Officer ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the arrest, saying investigations are ongoing to establish the suspect’s involvement in other cases.
“The suspect is currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish his involvement in other criminal activities within Kira Division and the neighbouring areas,” Owoyesigyire said.
Police said detectives are pursuing additional leads to identify possible accomplices and establish whether Lumu was part of a wider criminal network operating in the area.
Residents in Kyaliwajjala and surrounding communities have been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security authorities.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
