Polie have warned that it will not tolerate any form of misconduct during the Local Council I (LC1) chairperson elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026, urging candidates, supporters and voters to uphold peace and respect the electoral process.
Addressing journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru on Monday, Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke said security agencies are fully prepared to ensure the elections are conducted in a peaceful, lawful and orderly manner.
“As we approach the Local Council elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026, with campaigns ending on Monday, July 27, 2026, we wish to remind all candidates, supporters and members of the public that the electoral process must remain peaceful, lawful and orderly,” Rusoke said.
He said the Police, working alongside other security and administrative stakeholders, will take firm action against individuals whose actions threaten the credibility and integrity of the elections.
“We will not tolerate any form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of the elections,” Rusoke said.
The Police spokesperson warned that acts such as intimidation, violence, threats, tampering with election materials, obstructing election officials, illegal campaigning, disorderly conduct, voter influence at polling stations and attempts to disrupt the voting process would attract immediate action.
He also cautioned against unlawful processions, fighting, physical assaults and any behaviour likely to create fear, confusion or interfere with the smooth conduct of the elections.
“Those who choose to engage in bad practices or break the peace should expect decisive police action,” Rusoke warned.
He called on citizens to respect the electoral programme, follow guidance from election officials and allow voters to freely participate in choosing their local leaders.
Rusoke further reminded candidates and voters with grievances that the electoral system provides lawful channels for resolving disputes.
“The electoral process has mechanisms through which a dissatisfied party can convey his or her dissatisfaction, grievance or complaint,” he said.
The LC1 chairperson elections will be held on Tuesday, July 28, a day that Government has declared a public holiday to allow citizens to participate in electing village leaders.
Security agencies have assured the public that adequate measures have been put in place to protect voters, election officials and electoral materials throughout the exercise.
