Police in Kampala have arrested a female officer for allegedly stabbing her prison warder husband following a domestic dispute.
The incident happened on Sunday at Luzira Prison barracks when Lance Corporal Wilfred Okori, a prisons officer got a misunderstanding with his wife, Probation Police Constable, Mercy Alowo, a police officer attached to Kabalagala Police Station.
“The altercation arose from a domestic dispute regarding finances and phone matters, escalating throughout the day. The situation culminated in the deceased chasing away the suspect by throwing her belongings out and a fight erupted between the two lovers. Alowo fatally stabbed her husband, Okori Wilfred using a knife on the chest as he left for work,” Owoyesigyire said.
It is said that two lovers had a three year old child and the policewoman who had just returned from training at Kabalye had been attached to Kabalagala police Division from where he could frequently visit the husband at Luzira Prison barracks.
It is here(prison barracks) that the incident happened.
Owoyesigyire said when the prison warder was stabbed, his fellow warders helped carry him to the nearby Luzira Prisons Staff clinic from where he was pronounced dead.
The policewoman was consequently arrested and handed over to police.
The Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson said a murder case has since been opened on CRB: 064/2024 as investigations continue.
“ The crime scene was thoroughly examined by specialized teams, witness statements recorded, and the murder weapon, a knife, was recovered.”
Owoyesigyire however condemned the incident that he said is regrettable.
“ The Uganda Police Force and the Uganda Prisons service are working together to ascertain what exactly led to the murder, a thorough investigations will continue to unfold. Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time.”
