Rubis Energy Uganda has extended crucial support to the Missionaries of the Poor, a faith-based organization dedicated to caring for Uganda’s most vulnerable populations. The donation, which includes fuel support to aid daily logistical operations, was officially handed over during a ceremony held at Bethlehem Children’s Home in Busega.

This initiative is part of Rubis Energy Uganda’s broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, aimed at strengthening community development and uplifting underprivileged groups through meaningful partnerships.

Operating in Uganda since 2000, the Missionaries of the Poor provide shelter, care, and rehabilitation to children with disabilities, the mentally challenged, elderly individuals abandoned by their families, and street children—many from refugee and slum backgrounds. The organization currently houses over 400 residents and supports an additional 700 homes through its outreach programs.

“We receive children from police stations, from local councils, and even at our gate—children who have been forgotten or rejected. Here, we give them hope,” said Brother Joachim, caretaker priest at the home.
“We live entirely on donations. Rubis Energy Uganda’s support today means so much. May your generosity bring blessings upon your company and all who work with you.”

Brother Joachim also drew on scripture to underline the mission’s spiritual foundations, quoting from Isaiah 58:6-8 and Proverbs 19:17, urging compassion for the poor and marginalized.

Olivier Gatera, Country Manager of Rubis Energy Uganda, reiterated that the initiative is not a one-off gesture, but part of a long-term commitment to community transformation.

“We are proud to support organizations that demonstrate a clear and lasting commitment to humanity. It’s through such partnerships that we can drive sustainable social impact,” Gatera noted.

Rubis Energy Uganda has a consistent track record of social investment. The company has previously partnered with SOS Children’s Villages to provide LPG energy solutions and worked with Rotaract Uganda on environmental initiatives and menstrual health campaigns.

Its CSR framework is built on a three-fold commitment: reducing its environmental carbon footprint, ensuring a safe and empowering workplace, and actively supporting the creation of a virtuous and inclusive society.

The Rubis delegation, led by Gatera and CSR Manager Henry Karuhanga, was joined by representatives from the Uganda Red Cross and members of the media. Guests were taken on a guided tour of the facility, where they observed firsthand the conditions and needs of residents living with disabilities and age-related challenges.

By aligning with the Missionaries of the Poor, Rubis Energy Uganda not only fulfills its CSR mandate but also demonstrates that private sector compassion can drive lasting change.

Both organizations hope their collaboration will inspire more institutions to support vulnerable communities across Uganda.
