Security has reportedly  conducted a search at the Nakasero residence of outgoing Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, amid growing reports of an alleged corruption investigation targeting top government officials.

According to sources, the team of security also included detectives from the Criminal Investigations Directorate(CID) and other operatives from the military.

The developments follow a reported closed-door meeting held at State House Nakasero earlier this week, where President Yoweri Museveni is alleged to have questioned Among over the source of her wealth and recent extravagant spending.

The controversy intensified after reports emerged that Among had acquired a luxury Rolls-Royce Cullinan reportedly worth about Shs3.4 billion, triggering widespread debate on social media, with many Ugandans questioning the source of the funds used to purchase the vehicle.

The matter gained further public attention after the Chief of Defence Forces, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, posted comments on X questioning the lavish lifestyle associated with the Speaker.

In one of the posts, Gen. Muhoozi reportedly remarked that despite being the President’s son, he had never owned or even ridden in a Rolls-Royce, adding that President Museveni himself had never used such a vehicle.

Days later, the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), a pressure group associated with Gen. Muhoozi, withdrew its earlier endorsement of Among and her deputy for the next parliamentary leadership, saying it would instead support whoever President Museveni endorses.

The political tension escalated further on Thursday night after Gen. Muhoozi publicly endorsed Defence Minister Jacob Oboth-Oboth for Speaker of Parliament, a move that sparked intense reactions online and renewed scrutiny over Among’s leadership and wealth.

On Friday, reports also emerged of the arrest of newly elected Masaka Woman MP Justine Nameere, in what sources described as part of the wider ongoing investigations.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that several government officials believed to be close allies of Speaker Among were summoned to State House overnight for questioning.

Sources further claim that security around Among has since been changed and reduced, while her residences in Kololo and Kigo are under heightened security deployment.

However, by  Saturday, government had not issued any official statement confirming the alleged investigations, house arrest claims, or details surrounding the security operations.

The developments come on the backdrop of an admission by the Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala that she had received the petition by a group of activitsts seeking to have Among investigated over corruption.
