Police in Kira Division are investigating circumstances under which a family of six perished in a fire that gutted their house.
According to Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, the incident happened in the wee hours of Thursday morning at the house of Fred Ssekabira, 45, in Bukasa, Kirinya, Bweyogerere, Wakiso District.
“Concerned neighbors rushed to offer assistance; however, the fire had already engulfed the house, making rescue efforts extremely difficult,” said Owoyesigyire.
“Upon arrival, a team of investigators was introduced to the scene. During their inspection, they sadly discovered six bodies in the debris,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
The victims were identified as Ssekabila Fred, the head of the family, his wife Gonja Winifred, Nabuya Gloria, 20; Nakakira Peace, 16; Nakamya Helena, 9; and Nebula Briyan, 7.
The bodies have since been taken to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination.
. “Preliminary investigations, including statements from Ssekabila’s friends, suggest that he may have been exhibiting signs of suicidal behavior,” said Owoyesigyire.
