Stanbic Black Pirates produced a dominant display at Kingspark Arena, defeating Makerere Impis 31–9 in a Week 6 fixture of the 2026 Uganda Rugby Premiership.

The Pirates controlled the contest from the opening whistle, combining powerful forward play with an energetic backline to keep the visitors pinned deep inside their own half.

Makerere Impis managed to score their points through penalty kicks but struggled to break through the Pirates’ disciplined defensive line throughout the encounter.

Allan Karuhanga was named Man of the Match after delivering an impressive all-round performance. The experienced fly-half orchestrated the Pirates’ attack, controlling territory with tactical kicking and adding crucial points to maintain the hosts’ advantage.

February Player of the Month Emong Eliphaz also delivered a strong performance, playing a key role in the Pirates’ attacking rhythm and ensuring sustained pressure on the visitors.

Pirates captain Isaac Massa stood out defensively with several important tackles while leading the team from the front. Other notable contributions came from Haruna Muhammad, Karuhanga, and members of the Pirates’ forward pack who dominated the breakdown and set pieces.

Speaking after the victory, senior Pirates player Alema Ruhweza, also known as Diddy, said the team remains focused on maintaining its position at the top of the league standings.

“We are happy to be leading the table at this stage of the season,” Ruhweza said. “But the competition is very tight, and we know every game matters. Our focus is to stay consistent, keep improving, and continue pushing as a team.”

The result keeps Stanbic Black Pirates at the summit of the standings after six rounds with 24 points from five wins and one loss. They are closely followed by Buffaloes Rugby Club on 23 points and Kampala Rugby Football Club on 22 points, underlining the tightly contested race at the top.

Jackie Abwol, Marketing Manager for FlexiPay at Stanbic Bank Uganda, praised the team’s performance and highlighted the importance of supporting local sport.

“We are proud to see the Pirates performing at such a high level,” Abwol said. “Through Stanbic FlexiPay, we remain committed to supporting Ugandan rugby and creating opportunities that help grow the sport and engage communities.”

Elsewhere on the table, Heathens Rugby Club sit fourth with 21 points, followed by Mongers Rugby Club with 20. Victoria Sharks Rugby Club occupy sixth place with 19 points, while Walukuba Barbarians Rugby Club and Makerere Impis are tied on 14 points each.

Further down the standings, Jinja Hippos Rugby Club have eight points, Gulu Rhinos Rugby Club have five, while Kakira Simbas Rugby Club and Warriors Rugby Club are yet to register a point this season.
