A tragic fire in Mpala Cell, Katabi Town Council, Wakiso District, claimed the lives of three young girls in the early hours of Friday.
The victims have been identified as Namiru Ellah, 12, Amani Namulema, 5, and Namujju Tamale, 3.
Preliminary findings indicate that the mother, Nalubwama Julie, had left the children unattended, while their father, Kavuma Lenon, was away in Jinja for work.
The Kampala metropolitan deputy Police Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the incident noting that the force has commenced investigations into the tragic incident.
“The fire, which broke out at about 1:00 am, was reported to Police by the local LC1 Chairperson, the Fire and Rescue Services responded promptly and extinguished the blaze, two bodies were recovered outside the burnt house, while the third was found inside, burnt beyond recognition,” ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said
Owoyesigyire noted that the deceased’s bodies have been conveyed to the City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examination as investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
