ooro Subjects Fulfil Pledge, Gift Chief Prince New Land Cruiser
The people of Tooro have fulfilled their pledge to purchase a brand-new vehicle for the Kingdom’s Chief Prince, Omusuuga Charles Kamurasi, in recognition of his service to the kingdom during a difficult period.
For some time, Omusuuga Kamurasi had been using an old pickup truck. Following the death of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, Tooro subjects launched a fundraising drive with a target of Shs500 million to purchase a new vehicle for the Omusuuga.
What initially appeared to be an ambitious target has now been achieved, with a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser TX delivered to the Karuzika Royal Palace.
The vehicle, which bears the customised number plate “Musuuga 001”, was officially handed over to the Omusuuga, who thanked the people of Tooro and well-wishers from across Uganda and the diaspora for what he described as an act of patriotism.
“I want to thank you, the people of Tooro, the people of Uganda and those in the diaspora. This is patriotism of the highest order,” he said.
The gesture is being described by his supporters as a recognition of his role in preserving and defending Tooro’s cultural norms and traditions, particularly during the turbulent period that followed the death of King Oyo.
The Omusuuga faced criticism during the succession and transition period. However, his supporters say he remained firm in upholding the kingdom’s traditions and institutional processes.
The delivery of the vehicle marks the fulfilment of the fundraising pledge by Tooro subjects, who said the gesture was intended to appreciate the Chief Prince’s service to the kingdom.
