The Aswa West Region police have arrested two men in connection with the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit motor vehicle and motorcycle lubricants.
The operation was carried out on Saturday following intelligence reports about illegal activities at a residence in Wii-Layibi Cell, Techo Ward, Gulu City.
Investigative security officers raided the premises and recovered several boxes of suspected counterfeit engine oil, empty branded lubricant containers, and equipment used for sealing and packaging the fake products.
The suspects are currently in custody at Gulu West Police Station, facing charges related to the manufacture and distribution of counterfeit goods.
Police say investigations are ongoing to trace others involved and uncover the network behind the illegal trade.
SP Kituuma Rusoke, the Police spokesperson urged the public to be cautious against fake lubricants on the market.
“The Uganda Police Force cautions members of the public against purchasing lubricants from unauthorized dealers and encourages consumers to verify the authenticity of products before purchase,” Kituuma warned.
He also called upon Ugandans with information regarding people manufacturing fake products to report to authorities.
“Anyone with information on the manufacture or sale of counterfeit goods should report it to the nearest police station,” he added.
Police noted that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
