The May-June Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board (UBTEB) exams will begin on Monday at 294 centres around the country.
UBTEB Executive Secretary, Onesmus Oyesigye said on Saturday that 32,726 candidates with 17357 females and 15369 males will sit for the exams.
“In accordance with UBTEB rules on the conduct of examinations, the Board carried the briefing of area coordinators and centre supervisors on April, 25, 2024 across the country and accordingly all centres briefed candidates on May, 8, 2024 as expected to ensure the smooth conduct of examination,” Oyesigye said.
UBTEB said the delivery of materials has started today, Saturday.
According to UBTEB, in business programs, 14524 candidates are for certificates while 5792 are doing diplomas while for technical programs, 594 are certificate , 8270 for diplomas, 448 for higher diploma while 144 are for USDP.
”As part of enhancing inclusive education, the Board has registered a total of 118 candidates with special needs (69 male and 49 female) pursuing various TVET professions.”
Oyesigye said 66 candidates will require special attention noting that the special needs include Dyslexia, visual impairment (blind), hard of hearing (deaf), and physical disability.
“The special needs candidates will be accorded special examination arrangements such as sign language interpreters and transcribers, while others will be accorded extra 30 minutes.”
Malptractice
The UBTEB Executive Secretary warned candidates against exam malpractice, encouraging heads of centres to ensure that task forces at institutional level are well brief on the conduct of exams.
He explained that the task force is responsible for ensuring examinations are done in compliance with UBTEB rules and standards.
“The heads of centres are encouraged to highlight the penalties for examination malpractices if caught.”
Oyesigye said UBTEB has deployed over 450 reconnoiters and other monitors as well as over 200 practical assessors and verifiers who do on-spot assessment of candidates.
“Any form of involvement shall attract severe penalties ranging from cancellation of all results for the entire semester/term, to imprisonment or caution,” Oyesigye warned.
