Vivo Energy Uganda, the official distributor and marketer of Shell fuels and lubricants, has announced a Shs10 million sponsorship for the 2025 edition of the CoRSU Walk, reaffirming its commitment to community health and disability advocacy.
Organised by the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services in Uganda (CoRSU) Hospital, the annual walk is scheduled for Sunday, October 5, 2025, with participants starting and ending the route at the MUBS Main Playground in Kampala. Flag-off is expected at 6:00 a.m.
Themed “Bring Hope to Children with Disability,” this year’s CoRSU Walk aims to raise Shs400 million to fund up to 300 life-changing surgeries for children with disabilities, procure essential theatre equipment, renovate the hospital’s Outpatients Department (OPD), and enhance rehabilitation and therapy services.
Speaking about the sponsorship, Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, emphasised the company’s ongoing dedication to improving health outcomes in local communities.
“Health is at the heart of our community investment programme, and enabling children to reclaim mobility and independence aligns deeply with our purpose,” Menya said. “This sponsorship is not just about donating a cheque; it is a symbol of our commitment to transforming lives.”
Valery Okecho, Corporate Communications Manager at Vivo Energy Uganda, echoed the message, calling on other corporate entities and individuals to join the cause.
“With every stride, we bridge the gap between despair and possibility. This walk is more than an event—it is an expression of our shared humanity and dedication to community wellbeing,” he said.
The inaugural CoRSU Walk, held in 2024, attracted over 1,000 participants and successfully raised Shs34 million. The funds enabled the hospital to carry out approximately 20 surgical procedures for children with disabilities. Beyond the fundraising success, the event significantly amplified public discourse on disability and expanded CoRSU’s physiotherapy and rehabilitation outreach.
Robert Ochai, CEO of CoRSU Hospital, highlighted the long-term impact of such initiatives.
“Since its founding in 2006, CoRSU has operated on the belief that disability must never mean inability,” he said. “That belief has guided every decision we make. To date, we have conducted over 70,000 surgeries and rehabilitated more than 100,000 patients.”
Ochai noted that the walk is not only about raising funds but also about restoring hope and dignity to children and their families. He praised the growing support from both the public and private sectors, which he said is critical in ensuring sustained impact.
With a growing number of partners rallying behind the cause, the 2025 CoRSU Walk promises to be both a celebration of resilience and a powerful call to action for a more inclusive society.
