Vivo Energy, the pan-African distributor and marketer of Shell and Engen-branded fuels and lubricants, has launched a cutting-edge fleet and equipment monitoring solution aimed at transforming maintenance and operational efficiency for commercial clients.

The new solution, known as VE-CEM (Continuous Equipment Monitoring), is powered by Digital Twin technology developed by Vivo Energy’s technology partner, Intangles. VE-CEM provides real-time, predictive insights into the health and performance of vehicles and machinery, allowing businesses to prevent breakdowns before they occur and significantly reduce downtime.

VE-CEM captures and analyzes data directly from a vehicle’s electronic control unit (ECU), delivering a 360-degree view of key systems such as the engine, aftertreatment, brakes, battery, air intake, and alternator. It also monitors driver behavior, linking operational habits to fuel efficiency and vehicle health. Insights are delivered through intuitive dashboards accessible on any device.

The solution is targeted at businesses operating in transport and logistics, mining, construction, and agriculture – sectors where equipment reliability is crucial to profitability and safety.

“At Vivo Energy, we don’t just fuel industries; we power transformation,” said Stan Mittelman, CEO of Vivo Energy. “VE-CEM empowers our customers to anticipate and prevent costly breakdowns, make smarter operational decisions, and increase productivity. This is a meaningful step forward in digital fleet management.”

Unlike traditional maintenance methods that are reactive and often result in operational delays, VE-CEM enables a shift to predictive and proactive maintenance. The device is compact and easily installed, offering near-instantaneous access to predictive diagnostics via a secure cloud-based platform.

Joanita Mukasa Menya, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Uganda, emphasized the solution’s relevance to local market challenges.

“Our commercial customers are under constant pressure – from managing high maintenance costs to meeting rising expectations on safety and sustainability,” she said. “VE-CEM gives them the foresight to act before breakdowns happen. That kind of visibility turns maintenance into a strategic advantage.”

The technology has already been piloted successfully in Kenya, Senegal, and Zambia, where early adopters reported substantial reductions in unplanned downtime and improved operational performance.

Following positive feedback, Vivo Energy is now rolling out VE-CEM across its commercial operations in Africa, with plans for further expansion and co-development of future digital fleet solutions.
