National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has said he will be nominated for the presidency on Tuesday, 23rd September, the same day incumbent President Museveni is also expected to appear before the Electoral Commission at its new offices in Lubowa.
Bobi Wine confirmed the date on Thursday while addressing supporters at the NUP headquarters.
He revealed that immediately after his nomination, he will launch his campaign trail with rallies in Kampala suburbs.
“Nomination for president Tuesday, 23rd September. We’ll have two rallies thereafter: at Katwe and at Nateete,” he wrote on his X account.
The NUP leader further explained that his team has officially notified authorities about their post-nomination activities.
“This morning, we notified Uganda Police and the Electoral Commission about our intention to hold two public rallies immediately after the nomination of our Presidential Candidate, Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert. The first rally will be held at Katwe Grounds and the second at Kaala Playground in Nateete,” Bobi Wine said.
He appealed to security agencies to allow both parties to hold their events without disruption.
“We are aware that Museveni and his people will be holding their post-nomination rally and Kololo and hope the police will not act criminally and seek to interfere with our activities,” he added.
President Museveni, who is seeking re-election under the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), is expected to hold his post-nomination rally at Kololo Independence Grounds on the same day.
It remains to be seen how security will handle the crowds on the day when the two bigwigs in Uganda’s politics get nominated.
