The Electoral Commission has announced a new date for the election of the next president and Members of Parliament next year.
While the election had earlier been set for January, 12, the EC chairperson, Justice Simon Byabakama said the polls will now be held on January,15, 2026.
“The presidential polling date shall be January, 15 2026. All campaigns will stop 48 hours prior to the Polling date,” Byabakama announced.
The confirmation of the polling date officially sets the stage for Uganda’s 2026 General Elections, which will feature several key contenders, including President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni of the NRM, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine) of the NUP, Mugisha Muntu of the ANT, Nathan Nandala Mafabi of the FDC, Mubarak Munyagwa of Common Man’s Party, Peasants Party’s Robert Kasibante and Elton John Mabirizi.
