The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has applauded the steady progress of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) Air Force, describing it as one of Africa’s most promising air wings.
Speaking during a graduation ceremony at the Uganda Air Force College, Gen Muhoozi reflected on the UPDF’s evolution from a guerrilla force with no air capabilities to a modernizing military with a growing air force.
“Where we started, we had nothing in the air. Today, we are building one of the best air forces on the continent,” Gen Muhoozi told the graduates.
He challenged the graduating officers to pursue excellence in their fields, urging pilots to fully master their aircraft and strive to rank among Africa’s top aviators.
A total of over 500 trainees graduated in various disciplines, including pilot training, aircraft operations, engineering, and pilot instruction, in line with the UPDF’s ongoing professionalization agenda.
Gen Muhoozi also used the platform to renew his warning against corruption within the ranks, stating that those who misuse army resources will face severe consequences. His remarks drew loud applause from the audience.
In addition to commissioning the new graduates, the CDF also unveiled several infrastructure projects, including new housing units for soldiers at the college.
The Commander of the UPDF Air Force, Lt. Gen. Charles Okidi, commended Gen Muhoozi’s leadership and credited it for the steady advancement of Uganda’s air defence capabilities.
Brigadier General James Muhwezi, the Commandant of Uganda Air Force College, praised the graduates for their dedication and also lauded the CDF for supporting infrastructure upgrades at the facility.
