Police in Kyengera are holding 32 people suspected of drug abuse and phone theft following a night operation conducted on Saturday.
The operation was conducted in Kyengera Central, Nabaziza, Masanda and Kinawa between 10:30pm and 3:30am after police received reports that some youths were smoking suspected narcotic drugs and stealing phones and bags from people during rush hours.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire said the operation was meant to disrupt criminal activity in the area.
“Nsangi Police Division conducted a disruptive operation in Kyengera Central, Nabaziza, Masanda and Kinawa following reports of youths involved in smoking suspected narcotic drugs and stealing phones and bags during rush hours,” Owoyesigyire said.
He added that all the suspects are being held at Kyengera Police Station.
“Thirty-two suspects were arrested and are currently detained at Kyengera Police Station pending screening and further investigation,” he said.
Owoyesigyire said police will continue with similar operations to maintain law and order.
“Police remain committed to maintaining law and order in the area,” he said.
