President Yoweri Museveni has entered the 2026 presidential race, seeking to extend his leadership into a seventh term.
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) First National Vice Chairperson Hajji Moses Kigongo and NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong picked nomination forms on his behalf from the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala.
Museveni becomes the second major party candidate to formally join the contest, adding his name to a growing list of 95 aspirants who have so far expressed interest in the country’s top seat.
The President, who has been in power since 1986, will once again carry the NRM flag, setting the stage for what is expected to be a heated race in the run-up to the 2026 general elections.
