Police have arrested 12 suspects for selling fake tickets for tonight’s CHAN 2024 game between Uganda and South Africa.
“They tried to sell fake tickets to members of the public and the 12 have been arrested. They will face music,” Police spokesperson, Kituuma Rusoke said.
The tickets or the do-or die last group game between Uganda and South Africa got sold out only a few hours after going on sale last week, raising concerns by members of the public on how this could have happened.
Many claimed that a number of people had bought ordinary tickets in large numbers and that were selling them at an extra fee to those who were looking for them.
Kampala Police on Sunday said genuine tickets were being sold to multiple people,” but only the first person to enter the stadium will be allowed in. The machine will read the rest as already used.”
Speaking on Monday, Police spokesperson, Rusoke said they had busted the racket selling fake tickets to members of the public ahead of tonight’s game.
He however urged members of the public against falling victim to these fake tickets which he said are currently being sold on the open market.
“If you go into portals and find portals are over, don’t be convinced that by any magic or trick you will enter Namboole without an online ticket,” Rusoke urged.
He warned that anyone with a fake ticket will not be allowed inside the stadium.
