Airtel Uganda and Buganda Kingdom have renewed their longstanding partnership, extending a collaboration focused on connectivity, sport, culture and community development across the Kingdom.
The partnership, which began in 2018, brings together Airtel Uganda and Buganda Kingdom around initiatives aimed at supporting social and economic development, empowering young people, promoting healthier communities, preserving cultural heritage and expanding access to digital and financial services.
Speaking at the renewal of the partnership, Airtel Uganda Managing Director Soumendra Sahu said the collaboration aligns with Buganda Kingdom’s Situla Omutindo – Raise the Standard agenda and Airtel’s efforts to connect more Ugandans to digital and economic opportunities.
“Owekitibwa Katikiro, Airtel Uganda is aligned with your campaign of Situla Omutindo – Raise the Standard. This week, we will be announcing a major rise in the standards with which we connect our people to opportunities. From the remote coffee farmers to the isolated island communities of Buvuma,” Sahu said.
He said the partnership had produced initiatives whose impact extended beyond individual programmes, reaching communities across Buganda and contributing to wider social and economic development.
Under the partnership, customers have gained access to Airtel Money mobile financial services, internet connectivity and voice and data packages. Airtel Uganda and Buganda Kingdom said the renewed agreement would build on these initiatives while exploring solutions tailored to the changing needs of communities.
The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, thanked Airtel Uganda for its continued support and commitment to connectivity and community initiatives within the Kingdom.
“Our partnership with Airtel has delivered clear and tangible results, from promoting better health through the Kabaka Birthday Run to identifying and developing talent through the Masaza and Bika tournaments, while supporting the spiritual and cultural values of our people,” Mayiga said.
He described partnerships as requiring continued investment and development, adding that the renewal would provide an opportunity to expand the collaboration.
“Partnerships are living things; they must be nurtured, cared for and allowed to grow. As we renew this partnership, we look forward to expanding its horizons and pursuing bigger and better opportunities for the people we serve,” he said.
The renewed partnership builds on several joint initiatives involving Airtel Uganda and Buganda Kingdom, including the Kabaka Birthday Run, the Masaza Cup and the Bika Cup tournaments.
The initiatives have provided platforms for promoting health, sports and talent development while supporting Buganda’s cultural activities.
The two institutions said they would continue to explore areas where connectivity, digital financial services, sports and community programmes can contribute to social and economic opportunities for people across the Kingdom.
