Col. Edith Nakalema, the head of Uganda’s State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), has been awarded the World Book of Records Certificate of Excellence during a prestigious ceremony held at the House of Commons, British Parliament.
The international accolade recognizes Col. Nakalema’s outstanding contribution to promoting good governance, integrity, and sustainable development in Uganda. Her efforts to build a corruption-free society, safeguard investor interests, and empower young people have positioned her as one of the country’s most respected public servants.
“This global recognition is for her tireless commitment to building a corruption-free Uganda, inspiring integrity in young people, championing youth empowerment, and advancing agribusiness opportunities that drive community development and national transformation,” the State House Investors Protection Unit said in a statement following the award.
Officials from the World Book of Records lauded Col. Nakalema for her “visionary approach to leadership and development,” describing her as a symbol of ethical public service and a role model for leaders across the continent.
Her recognition at the heart of the British Parliament signals not just personal achievement but also international acknowledgement of Uganda’s growing efforts to foster transparency, accountability, and investment security.
“A proud moment for Uganda, and a reminder that integrity and service leave a mark not just at home, but across the world,” SHIPU added.
Background
Col. Edith Nakalema is a senior officer in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) .
She rose to national prominence as the founding head of the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SH-ACU), which she led from its inception in 2018 until 2022.
During her tenure at SH-ACU, Col. Nakalema was instrumental in investigating high-profile corruption cases and restoring public confidence in government accountability mechanisms. Her tough stance on corruption earned her both admiration and resistance in equal measure.
In 2022, she was appointed to lead the newly established State House Investors Protection Unit, a strategic office aimed at shielding investors from bureaucratic exploitation and promoting Uganda as a safe and transparent destination for investment.
Her work has focused on removing barriers to doing business, promoting integrity among public officials, and supporting youth-led initiatives in agribusiness and entrepreneurship.
Col. Nakalema holds a Master’s degree in International Security and Strategic Studies and is widely regarded as a champion of ethical leadership and public service in East Africa.
