National Unity Platform (NUP) president and 2026 presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, on Monday kicked off his second week of campaigns with a strong message against land grabbing, unemployment, and political hypocrisy as he addressed supporters in Mityana District.
Kyagulanyi, who began his Buganda campaign trail with rallies at Busujju and Busubuzi grounds in Mityana Municipality, was received by large crowds of supporters despite a heavy downpour that lasted through the afternoon.
“I will fight against the rampant land grabbing in these areas,” Kyagulanyi declared to thunderous applause.
“Our people have suffered enough. We want a Uganda where land belongs to its rightful owners, the citizens, not a few connected individuals.”
The NUP leader also vowed to tackle unemployment, saying it was shameful that many Ugandans, especially in Buganda, were forced to seek work abroad under difficult conditions.
“I will ensure that people, especially in Buganda, get decent jobs,” Kyagulanyi said.
“Why is it that our sisters and brothers from Buganda are always seen going to the Middle East to work? We are tired of such. Uganda must provide for its own people.”
Kyagulanyi’s campaign message focused on restoring dignity, fighting corruption, and creating opportunities for young people, whom he described as “the engine of change.”
Kyagulanyi also spoke about loyalty to the party, emphasizing that the National Unity Platform (NUP) would not make the mistake of giving party cards to individuals who do not deserve them.
“We are not foolish to give cards to people who don’t stand for our values,” Kyagulanyi said.
“For the first time, you’ve seen many people from the same region as I am starting political parties all with one goal: to fight Kyagulanyi.”
