Police have arrested 101 suspects in a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at cracking down on robbery, theft, and drug-related crimes.
According to the Deputy Spokesperson of Kampala Metropolitan Police, Luke Owoyesigyire, the coordinated operations were conducted between October 28 and 29 in KMP South and KMP East, targeting criminal hotspots and individuals suspected of involvement in violent and opportunistic crimes.
“In Kampala Central Division, 40 suspects were rounded up in black spots linked to the theft of motor vehicle parts and other street crimes,” said Owoyesigyire.
He added that in Kira Municipality, particularly in Kitukutwe, Kiwologoma, Kungu, Buwate, and Najjera, seven suspects were arrested with suspected narcotics and a toy gun believed to have been used in robberies.
In Kajjansi Division, another 45 suspects were apprehended from Ngobe, Sseguku, and Kajjansi areas for their alleged involvement in early-morning robberies.
Meanwhile, in Mukono, a joint operation in Kyugu and Kisenyi–Degeya led to the arrest of nine suspects found in possession of suspected narcotic substances.
“All suspects are currently detained at their respective police stations pending screening and prosecution,” Owoyesigyire noted, adding that the force will continue to conduct intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety across the metropolitan area.
