A suspected electricity vandal has been confirmed dead after he was fatally trapped while attempting to dismantle a high-voltage power transmission tower in Nakapinyi Village, Kasenge Parish, Nama Subcounty in Mukono District.
The incident, according to police, is believed to have occurred during the night of November 18th and 19th, 2025. A group of unidentified individuals allegedly targeted a power transmission tower connected to the Namawojolo power sub-station.
During the act, one of the vandals became stuck within the angle bars and died instantly.
His body, dressed in a blue overall, was found hanging on the structure early Wednesday morning.
The vandals also caused damage to a second transmission tower located about half a kilometre from the scene.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident, saying a case has been registered and investigations are underway.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the deceased was part of a group cutting the high-voltage tower structure, and he was fatally trapped during the collapse attempt,” Owoyesigyire said.
A joint team of officers from the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) and the police visited the scene, documented the damage, and gathered statements from residents. Task teams are now pursuing leads to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the vandalism.
“We have recorded statements, taken photographs, and our task teams are actively working to trace the other culprits for prosecution,” Owoyesigyire added.
Efforts are ongoing to safely retrieve the body for post-mortem examination and proper profiling. Police say they are also working to establish the motive behind the attempted vandalism and ensure that all those involved face the law.
