Ugandans living in Switzerland can now apply for National IDs, register for National Identification Numbers (NINs) including for children, and update personal details—all without leaving the country.
From 26th to 29th November 2025, the Embassy of the Republic of Uganda to the Swiss Confederation and Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva conducted a multi-sectoral Diaspora Engagement and Consular Service Delivery mission in Geneva and Zürich.
The four-day outreach marked one of the most comprehensive efforts ever to provide essential services to Ugandans abroad.
During the mission, citizens accessed a one-stop centre offering National Identity services, immigration support, and land consultations.
The initiative addressed queries on citizenship, travel documentation, and long-standing land matters, reflecting the diverse needs of the diaspora community.
In partnership with the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA), the National Citizenship and Immigration Control (NCIC), and the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development (MLHUD), the Embassy delivered vital services while strengthening trust and connection between the Government and its diaspora.
The mission also formally activated a fully functional NIRA and Immigration workstation at the Geneva Mission and enabled visa issuance directly from the Mission, providing unprecedented convenience for Swiss-based Ugandans.
The Directorate of Immigration sensitised participants on passport procedures, online payment platforms, and citizenship acquisition, while the Ministry of Lands facilitated consultations on land ownership, title verification, investment opportunities, and Uganda’s digitised land management system, UgNLIS.
The outreach culminated in a vibrant Uganda at 63 Independence celebration in Zürich, reinforcing unity and cultural pride. Ambassador Marcel Tibaleka praised the diaspora’s role in national development and confirmed plans to expand similar engagements in 2026, ensuring continued access to essential services abroad.
