Police have reported that Christmas travel across the country was largely safe, with very few road accidents recorded during the festive period.
The Uganda Police Force thanked road users for their vigilance and responsible behaviour, which contributed to the improved road safety situation.
Speaking on behalf of the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, Police Public Relations Officer SP Michael Kananura emphasised the need for continued caution as travellers begin their return journeys.
“Merry Christmas. We are glad to report that travel across the road network countrywide was largely safe, with very few crashes registered. We thank all road users for the vigilance and sense of responsibility exhibited,” Kananura said.
He reminded motorists that road safety starts with individual responsibility and urged drivers, riders and pedestrians to remain cautious.
“As we prepare to travel back, let us remember that safety begins with us. Someone is waiting for you back home — a mother, a child, a friend. Drive, ride and walk responsibly. No speed, no phone, no careless overtaking and no alcohol is worth a life,” he added.
Kananura warned that roads are unforgiving and stressed the importance of making safe choices to ensure the festive season and the New Year remain meaningful.
“Roads do not forgive mistakes. Make safe choices as you travel back. Slow down, stay alert and choose life,” he said.
Police say they will continue monitoring the road network and urge all road users to maintain vigilance as the festive travel period comes to an end.
