Police in Nebbi District have arrested a man suspected of stealing a motorcycle after a police sniffer dog tracked him to a pit latrine where he was hiding.
The suspect, identified as Morgan Munguryek, was arrested following the theft of a motorcycle belonging to Jakisa Emmy Saviour on January 26, 2026, according to police.
In a statement, police said the victim discovered the motorcycle missing from where it had been parked and reported the incident under SD Reference 15/27/01/2026, requesting the deployment of a sniffer dog.
A team of officers led by a dog handler responded to the scene, which police said had been well preserved.
“A police sniffer dog, T/P 237 Pablo, was introduced to the scent bed and successfully picked up a human scent believed to have been left behind by the suspect,” police said.
The dog tracked the scent for approximately 80 metres, leading officers to a location where a motorcycle handle had been abandoned.
“The tracking continued and eventually led the team to a nearby residence. After briefly rotating, the dog proceeded directly to a pit latrine, where the suspect was found hiding,” police added.
Munguryek was arrested and taken to Nebbi Police Station to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police said the recovered motorcycle handle has been secured as an exhibit as inquiries into the matter continue.
