A police sniffer dog has led to the arrest of three suspects accused of breaking into and stealing from a boutique in Nansana.
The suspects, identified as Atwine, Mwange, and Namara, were arrested on Friday February 20, 2026, by officers at Nansana Gganda Police Station in connection with a robbery at the shop of Mbowa Joshua, a businessman in Nansana Gganda.
According to preliminary investigations, Mbowa discovered the break-in in the morning when he went to open his boutique.
He found that unknown assailants had cut through the iron sheets and ceiling board to gain access to the shop. Cash was reportedly stolen before the suspects fled to an unknown destination.
Mbowa reported the matter to Gganda Police Station, prompting officers to request support from the Kawaala Police K9 Unit. A team of officers, accompanied by a sniffer dog named Pepper, responded to the scene.
The dog was introduced to the well-preserved crime scene and successfully picked up a scent trail. It tracked the scent for about one kilometre, leading officers to the residence of Atwine, where it zeroed in on him and the two other suspects.
A search at the premises resulted in the recovery of a pair of scissors suspected to have been used to cut the iron sheets, a hammer, and cash believed to be proceeds of the theft.
According to police, the three suspects reside and sleep in the same house.
The suspects, together with the recovered exhibits, are currently being held at Gganda Police Station as investigations continue.
