Amid a somber mood as crowds gathered at Lugogo for the cremation of Rajiv Ruparelia, emotions ran deep as Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia delivered a moving eulogy for his late son, reflecting both the agony of loss and the pride of fatherhood.
“As a father, I carry the immeasurable pain of his loss, and at the same time, immense pride in having raised a son like Rajiv,” Sudhir said, in a steady voice but heavy with grief.
The ceremony, attended by family, friends, and dignitaries, was not just a farewell, but a celebration of Rajiv’s vibrant spirit a life that touched many through business, philanthropy, and friendship.
Sudhir remembered his son as a quick learner, full of life and gifted with a unique ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
“That’s how he connected so deeply with people,” Sudhir noted. “He didn’t just show up he inspired. He made everyone feel seen, valued, and empowered, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds.”
Rajiv’s compassion stretched far beyond business circles. His father recounted his unwavering support for education, helping students from primary school through university.
Rajiv believed in lifting others, especially those who lacked access and opportunity.
“He saw potential where others saw limitation and became a pillar of strength and hope for everyone around him,” Sudhir said.
The tribute also captured the essence of Rajiv’s character his authenticity, loyalty, and the relationships he nurtured across professional and social spaces.
Even as he pursued his passion for motorsport, Rajiv remained deeply grounded.
Sudhir revealed that out of concern, he once asked his son to step away from racing, a request Rajiv respected despite his deep love for the sport.
One of the most tender moments of Sudhir’s speech came through a childhood memory. He recalled buying Rajiv a small suitcase in London when he was just five years old.
The young boy, he said, determined and imaginative, would pack it with chocolates and carry it into meetings, mimicking his father’s business demeanor.
Fishing trips on Lake Victoria also stood out among the cherished memories between father and son.
“Those are among the countless, precious memories I will carry with me for the rest of my life,” Sudhir said.
He broke down in tears as he concluded with a powerful message to his son, assuring him that his legacy would never be forgotten. “You will never be forgotten,” he said.
