Seven officials from Rubanda District and a private contractor have been remanded to Luzira Prison over the alleged embezzlement of more than Shs100 million meant for agricultural extension services.
Om Tuesday, the suspects were arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala on charges of abuse of office and embezzlement.
They are accused of mismanaging funds that were allocated to support agricultural extension activities across various sub-counties in Rubanda District.
According to the prosecution, the offences were allegedly committed between January 2023 and June 2023.
Those remanded include Benon Kahangi, the District Production Officer; Stephen Buregyeya, Senior Treasurer; Sixtus Ahabwe, Assistant Veterinary Officer; Owen Atuhaire, Assistant Inventory Management Officer; Pamela Musimenta, Assistant Agriculture Officer; Kwizera Wilson, Assistant Agriculture Officer; and Gerald Sibomana, Fisheries Officer.
Also charged is Nicholas Karuhanga, Director of Hummer Consults Co. Ltd, a contractor linked to the case.
The suspects were separately remanded by principal Magistrate Paul Mujuni and His Worship Christopher.
They will return to court on March 9 and March 11, 2026 for hearing of their bail applications.
Court heard that the funds in question were meant to facilitate agricultural extension services aimed at improving farming activities in the district.
Meanwhile, another suspect, Peter Turinayo, is still at large. Magistrate Mujuni issued criminal summons directing him to appear before the Anti-Corruption Court on March 11, 2026.
The prosecution team was led by Mikka Luteete Mikka and Diana Nantabazi, Supervisors in charge of Prosecutions at the Inspectorate of Government.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
