After a period of reflection and time away from the spotlight, renowned Ugandan jazz saxophonist Isaiah Katumwa has announced his return with a new single titled “New Days.”
Speaking in an interview, Katumwa described the song as more than just music, but a personal statement on growth and renewal.
“New Days is more than a song; it is a declaration,” he said.
The track is built on his signature smooth jazz style, featuring calm saxophone melodies layered over rich harmonies. Katumwa said the composition was intentionally kept simple to allow emotion and meaning to come through clearly.
“This release comes from a place of clarity. It’s not just about making music; it’s about communicating meaning through sound,” he explained.
According to the veteran instrumentalist, the song reflects themes of new beginnings, embracing change, and moving forward with confidence.
“It speaks to fresh starts and the courage to step into a new chapter, even after uncertainty,” he noted.
For over three decades, Katumwa has remained a key figure in Uganda’s jazz scene, blending African rhythms with contemporary jazz. Through platforms such as Jazz With Isaiah, he has also played a significant role in connecting local and international artists.
Observers say his consistency has helped him remain relevant in an industry largely dominated by mainstream vocal music. However, Katumwa maintains that his focus has always been on authenticity.
“I have always chosen to refine my voice and let the saxophone speak,” he said.
With “New Days,” Katumwa delivers a simple but powerful message.
“It’s an invitation to listen again, to begin again, and to move forward with intention,” he added.
The single is expected to mark the beginning of a new creative phase for the celebrated saxophonist as he reconnects with audiences in Uganda and beyond.
