Police in Kampala have launched investigations into a fatal shooting that occurred in the early hours of Sunday,April, 19, 2026, in Kawanda Central, Nabweru Division, Wakiso District.
The deceased has been identified as Joe Namu, a 55-year-old retired journalist.
According to police, preliminary findings indicate that he was shot dead by an unidentified armed assailant who was reportedly masked at the time of the attack.
“The suspect, who was masked, shot the victim and fled the scene immediately after the incident,” Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said in a statement.
He said offficers responded to the scene and conducted documentation as part of the ongoing investigation.
Authorities confirmed that evidence was collected to support efforts to identify and apprehend the suspect.
“A team of officers visited and documented the crime scene, and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing,” police added.
The body of the deceased was conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police have urged members of the public to remain calm and report any information that could assist in the investigation.
“We call upon anyone with information that may help in identifying the suspect to come forward,” the statement noted.
