Former Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura, has described Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, as Uganda’s hope, praising his leadership during the “Run for Charity, Run for Hope” birthday run held on Sunday at Kololo Independence Grounds.
Speaking after participating in the charity run organized to celebrate Gen. Muhoozi’s 52nd birthday, Kayihura thanked Ugandans for turning up in large numbers and supporting the cause.
“Thank you for supporting Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a great leader. I want you to know that Gen. Muhoozi is our hope,” Kayihura said.
The run attracted thousands of participants, including army generals, politicians, musicians, civil society organizations, and businesspeople, all joining efforts to support vulnerable and underprivileged children such as orphans, street children, and those lacking basic needs like food, education, and shelter.
The event was flagged off by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, who represented Gen. Muhoozi.
Among the notable participants were Deputy CDF Lt. Gen. Sam Okiding, Lt. Gen. Kayanja Muhanga, Gen. Jim Muhwezi, and other senior leaders.
Kayihura’s remarks come years after his fallout from the Uganda Police Force, where he served as Inspector General of Police from 2005 until March 2018, when President Yoweri Museveni removed him from office.
He was later arrested and charged before the General Court Martial over allegations including the unlawful distribution of arms and involvement in the illegal repatriation of Rwandan exiles and refugees.
In 2021, Gen. Muhoozi publicly asked President Museveni to forgive Kayihura, describing him as one of the special cadres who inspired him to serve Uganda.
