Police have unveiled the identities of eight suspects arrested in connection with the murder of rugby star Sydney Gogondyo, who was killed by a mob last Friday, June 5.
The suspects have been identified as Noordin Ssebagala, Roden Ayebazibwe, Juliet Namukos, Elly Mondoni, Herbert Twinomujuni, Petrigrino Katsigazi, Darlious Tayebwa, and Hannington Tugume.
According to police, three suspects were first arrested on Sunday, while five others were picked up on Monday evening, bringing the total number of arrests to eight.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala said investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying and arresting additional individuals believed to have participated in the attack.
“Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and apprehend other individuals believed to have participated in the incident,” she said.
Gogondyo was attacked by a mob in Masulira Zone, Bukoto, Kampala, following allegations that he had snatched a woman’s handbag. He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where he later died at around 7:00 p.m.
The deceased rugby player is expected to be laid to rest today, Tuesday, June 9, in Sironko District.
