Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has met with the owners of Nation Media Group (NMG) to discuss the closure of its Ugandan outlets, including NTV Uganda, Spark TV and the Daily Monitor.
The meeting, held at the Special Forces Command (SFC) headquarters in Entebbe, was attended by NMG owner Mr. Rostam Aziz, his son Mr. Saam Aziz, and Ms. Georgia Mutagaywa, the Chief of Staff at Taarifa Limited, the parent organisation of Nation Media Group.
Details of the discussions were not disclosed.
The meeting comes days after NMG outlets were shut down in the early hours of Sunday following orders issued by Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The shutdown was preceded by a security operation in which personnel cordoned off the media group’s premises, restricting movement in and out of the facilities.
On Tuesday, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, Justine Lumumba Kasule, said the deployment at the Nation Media Group premises had been authorised by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as part of an ongoing security-led investigation.
Addressing journalists, Lumumba said the events that led to the disruption of operations at NMG outlets on June 28, 2026, were triggered by an inquiry involving security agencies.
“The events of 28th June 2026 that led to the disruption of operations at Nation Media Group were occasioned by a security-led inquiry instituted by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda,” Lumumba said.
The government has not provided further details about the nature of the investigation or when the affected media outlets are expected to resume normal operations.
Gen Muhoozi said recently that reopening the Nation Media Group operations is being discussed, with final approval resting with President Museveni.
