Ecobank Uganda has recognised outgoing Board Chairperson Richard Munanyeza and Board Director Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa for their contribution to the bank’s governance and growth during a farewell dinner held in Kampala.
The event, hosted at the Grand Ballroom of Four Points by Sheraton Kampala, brought together board members, senior management, employees, regulators, customers, business leaders and strategic partners to mark the end of the two leaders’ tenure.
Munanyeza, who has served as Board Chairperson, was credited with providing strategic leadership that strengthened the bank’s governance framework, enhanced operational resilience and supported its long-term growth strategy. During his tenure, Ecobank Uganda expanded customer-focused banking solutions while maintaining corporate governance and accountability standards, according to the bank.
Speaking at the event, Munanyeza described his time at the bank as a privilege.
“Serving as Board Chairperson of Ecobank Uganda has been a tremendous honour. Together with the Board, management, employees and our stakeholders, we have built a stronger institution founded on integrity, resilience and a shared commitment to our customers. I leave with immense pride in what we have achieved together and every confidence that the bank will continue to grow from strength to strength,” he said.
Board Director Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa was also recognised for her contribution to board oversight and strategic decision-making, which the bank said helped strengthen institutional stability.
Ecobank Uganda Managing Director Grace Muliisa thanked the outgoing leaders for their service, saying their leadership had left a lasting impact on the institution.
“Richard Munanyeza and Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa have made an extraordinary contribution to Ecobank Uganda. Their leadership, wisdom and unwavering commitment have strengthened our institution and inspired everyone who has had the privilege of working alongside them. On behalf of the management team and all our employees, I extend our heartfelt appreciation for their years of dedicated service,” Muliisa said.
She added that their legacy would continue to guide the bank as it builds on the foundation they helped establish while delivering value to customers and communities.
The bank also introduced David Frederick Kisitu Mpanga as the incoming Board Chairperson. In his remarks, Mpanga said he would seek to build on the governance structures established by his predecessors.
“Richard Munanyeza’s leadership has been defined by integrity, vision and a steadfast commitment to strong governance. Together with Fatuma Sentongo Nagawa, they have helped establish a solid foundation for Ecobank Uganda’s continued success. We are grateful for their service and remain committed to building on the legacy they leave behind as we guide the bank into its next chapter,” Mpanga said.
Guests at the dinner reflected on milestones achieved during Munanyeza’s tenure, including strengthening governance systems, enhancing operational resilience and reinforcing Ecobank Uganda’s position within Uganda’s financial services sector.
Special recognition was also accorded to Nagawa for her role in shaping the bank’s governance and strategic direction through her service on the Board.
The leadership transition comes as Ecobank Uganda says it is seeking to build on its governance framework while expanding financial inclusion, growing its portfolio of innovative financial products and supporting Uganda’s economic development.
