The Anti-Corruption Court has remanded the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) Commissioner for Refugee Management, Patrick Okello, 55, and Assistant Information Technology Officer, Noel Ikwap, 37, to Luzira Prison over allegations of abuse of office.

The two officials appeared before Grade One Magistrate Esther Asiimwe, who ordered that they remain on remand until August 10, 2026, when they will return to court for mention of their case and consideration of their bail applications.

Okello and Ikwap were arrested by the Inspectorate of Government (IGG) in June alongside four other suspects over allegations of extortion linked to the refugee registration process in Uganda.

The charges were filed by the IGG as part of ongoing investigations into alleged abuse of office, corruption and mismanagement of public resources.

During the court proceedings, the IGG prosecution team was led by Principal Officer Prosecutions Mikka Luteete, alongside Principal Officer Litigation Diana Nantabazi and Inspectorate Officer Pius Kaweesi.

The Inspectorate of Government said the prosecution of the two officials reflects its continued commitment to fighting corruption, strengthening accountability and promoting integrity within public service.

The accused will remain in custody at Luzira Prison until their next court appearance.
