The family of the late former first deputy Prime Minister, Gen Moses Ali has said it is not endorsing any candidate for the Adjumani West by-election.
The Adjumani West parliamentary seat fells vacant following the death of long-serving legislator, Gen Moses Ali on July, 18, 2026.
The ruling NRM party has nominated a number of candidates for the forthcoming by-election set for September, 17 .
The former first deputy prime minister’s son, Kassim Ali has also expressed interest in joining the race to succeed his late dad.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the family said while many candidates have expressed interest in succeeding Gen Moses Ali, they are not endorsing any of them.
“The family, which is still in mourning, has noted the ongoing campaigns for the NRM primaries for Adjumani West and wishes to clarify that they have not endorsed any candidate for the seat,” the family said.
“We trust and believe that the people of Adjumani will use their wisdom and good judgment in selecting the best candidate to represent them in parliament.”
The Adjumani West parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali on July 18, 2026.
Gen Ali was a long-serving representative of the constituency and a prominent figure in Uganda’s political and military history.
The Electoral Commission has started displaying the voters’ register in Adjumani West Constituency at all the 114 polling stations in the constituency and will run until Wednesday, August 26.
The Electoral Commission roadmap shows that nomination of candidates is scheduled for September 7 and 8, followed by campaigns and polling on September 17.
