Jesa Farm Dairy has announced a temporary shortage of its milk products on the Ugandan market, citing the impact of a prolonged dry spell that has severely affected dairy farming communities across the country.
In a statement issued by management on Sunday, the dairy company said the extended dry season has significantly reduced milk production, resulting in lower supplies to consumers.
“We are experiencing a temporary shortage due to the prolonged dry season, which has affected all dairy farming communities and led to reduced milk production,” the company said.
Jesa, one of Uganda’s established dairy brands, produces fresh milk, yoghurt and other dairy products sourced from its farm in Busunju and a network of out-grower farmers, mainly in central Uganda.
According to the company, the prolonged dry conditions have reduced the availability of pasture and water, directly affecting the amount of milk produced by dairy cattle.
The shortage comes as farmers in several parts of Uganda continue to grapple with harsh and prolonged dry conditions, which have affected both crop and livestock production.
Limited water and pasture can reduce livestock productivity, putting additional pressure on dairy farmers and the wider milk supply chain.
Jesa appealed to consumers for patience and understanding as it works through the supply disruption.
“We kindly ask for your patience and understanding during this period,” management said.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the quality of its products and thanked customers for their continued loyalty.

While Jesa described the shortage as temporary, the company did not specify when normal milk supplies are expected to resume.
The development highlights the growing vulnerability of Uganda’s dairy sector to prolonged dry conditions and the potential impact of weather-related disruptions on the availability of essential food products.
