The latest edition of Club Canvas On the Move brought together university students, creatives, media personalities and music fans in Mbarara on Saturday, September 5, for an evening centred on live music, entertainment and contemporary youth culture.

The experience began in Kampala, where road-trip winners gathered at Shell Lugogo and boarded Club Canvas-branded buses alongside content creators and members of the media.

Music, games and conversations set the tone for the journey to Mbarara, with the convoy making stops along the way. In Nkozi, additional university students joined the trip, while another stop at the Equator provided an opportunity for passengers to take photographs before the group continued to Mbarara.

The convoy eventually arrived in Mbarara and proceeded to GKAT Resort, where the main event was held.

The gathering attracted students from several institutions, including Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Bishop Stuart University, Kampala International University in Ishaka and universities in Nkozi, as well as other revellers from Mbarara and neighbouring areas.

At the resort, attendees had access to a range of entertainment and interactive activities beyond the main stage. These included virtual-reality experiences, gaming areas and live tattoo artistry, reflecting Club Canvas’ focus on music, art, fashion, technology and other forms of contemporary culture.

The evening’s entertainment began with DJ performances, with Mac DJ starting the programme before Riddim Seleckta and Lithan MC continued to build the atmosphere.

DJ Trizzy Vybz later performed alongside Benjhi MC, followed by DJ Alza and MC Dreadlock Dziz. Lynda Ddane and Evelyn M!C also featured during the evening, contributing to the entertainment as the programme moved towards its headline acts.

Ugandan rapper Fik Fameica was among the night’s main performers, delivering a high-energy set featuring music drawn from his hip-hop, dancehall and Afro-pop influences.

His performance drew a strong response from the audience, with revellers singing along, dancing and cheering throughout the set.

Mbarara-born rapper, singer and songwriter Truth 256 followed as the final live performer. Known for incorporating elements of contemporary hip-hop and his Ankole heritage into his music, Truth 256 performs in Runyankore, Luganda and English.

His appearance provided a local connection to an event that had brought together students and entertainment audiences from across the region. His performance also underscored Club Canvas’ approach of featuring established national acts alongside artists with links to the communities hosting its events.

After the live performances, DJ Ali Breezy and Lithan MC took over the entertainment, keeping the audience engaged into the closing hours of the event.

The Mbarara edition of Club Canvas On the Move combined a road-trip experience from Kampala with live music, interactive entertainment and a gathering of university communities, creatives and other young people from across the region.
