Old Mutual Uganda has introduced a new digital wellness platform aimed at helping Ugandans address different aspects of their wellbeing through one integrated experience.
Known as Thrive by Old Mutual, the application brings together resources covering mental, physical, nutritional and financial wellness, with users able to access practical information, tools and wellness-related activities through the platform.
The initiative was launched at MoTIV in Bugolobi, Kampala, where customers, wellness professionals, fitness communities, partners and other stakeholders participated in activities including fitness sessions, meditation, yoga, nutrition consultations and wellness discussions.
The launch comes at a time when mental health is attracting increasing attention in Uganda.
The National Planning Authority’s State of Uganda Population Report 2025, themed “Mental Health: A Silent Emergency”, reported a more than 71 per cent increase in mental-health cases between 2021 and 2024 and estimated that nearly one in four Ugandans is affected.
Old Mutual says the figures highlight the importance of viewing wellbeing beyond individual health concerns, particularly because financial pressures, physical health, nutrition and mental wellbeing can influence people’s daily decisions, relationships and ability to plan for the future.
Zac Kisesi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda, said financial wellbeing is closely linked to people’s broader quality of life.
He said Thrive is designed to help users develop healthier financial habits, make informed decisions and work towards their financial goals.
For Andrew Makumbi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Insurance Uganda, the initiative signals a shift towards engaging customers before a crisis or unexpected event occurs.
“Protection should also mean helping customers reduce risk, build healthier lifestyles and make choices that strengthen their overall wellbeing,” Makumbi said.
Patrick Kimathi, Managing Director of Old Mutual Life Assurance Uganda, said wellbeing also requires people to take a long-term view of their health, finances and personal goals.
The digital approach comes as access to mobile services continues to expand in Uganda.
The Uganda Communications Commission’s Q2 2026 Market Performance Report recorded an increase in active mobile internet subscriptions from 17.9 million in March to 19.7 million in June 2026. Active mobile subscriptions also rose from 47.5 million to 49 million over the same period.
Old Mutual says this expanding digital environment creates an opportunity to deliver wellness information and support to a wider audience.
Thrive also incorporates a rewards component. Users who complete wellness challenges can access benefits and vouchers from selected partners, providing an incentive to maintain participation in wellness activities.
The company says its wider objective is to build a community around consistent improvements in financial, physical, mental and nutritional wellbeing.
Thrive by Old Mutual is available for free download through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
