Four teachers who were arrested on Monday by police over sharing fake PLE exam papers on social media have pleaded guilty to the charges.
Albert Babeku, 32 a teacher at Stone Rigdge Primary School in Kira in Wakiso district,Vincent Muheki, 25, a teacher at Vision Primary School in Ibanda , Kevin Bakashaba, the director of studies at Kimongole Primary School, Vincent Muheeki and HoseaToyek, a teacher at Dignitory Primary School in Rukungiri were on Tuesday afternoon arraigned before the Kira Magistrates Court and charges of unauthorized possession of examination materials or information contrary to section 25(1) of the UNEB Act 2021.
Prosecution told court that the four and others still at large between August, September, and October, 2024 in different parts of the country using different social media groups of WhatsApp and Telegram were in possession of UNEB PLE examinations of math, science, English and SST.
The quartet however pleaded guilty to the charges and in response, the state attorney, Josephine Apio asked the trial magistrate to adjourn the case to enable her organize the brief facts before presenting them to court.
Kira grade one magistrate, Ivan Sseguya remanded the quartet to prison until Thursday.
The case
Section 25(1) of the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Act 2021 says a person found in unauthorized possession of examination materials, papers, or information before or during an exam commits an offence and is liable to five years imprisonment or shs20 million fine or both on conviction.
