The Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brig. Gen. Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru as the Acting Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC).
According to a statement by the acting UPDF spokesperson, Col Chris Magezi on Monday, the appointment takes immediate effect. Brig. Gen. Nyakikuru has also been granted the acting rank of Major General as he assumes the new role.
Acting Maj. Gen. Nyakikuru succeeds Maj. Gen. David Mugisha, who is expected to leave the Special Forces Command in the coming months to pursue strategic security studies at the National Defence College (NDC) abroad.
The UPDF commended Maj. Gen. Mugisha for his service during his tenure as Commander of the Special Forces Command, describing his tour of duty as outstanding.
“The UPDF thanks Major General David Mugisha for the outstanding tour of duty as Commander SFC and wishes him good luck in his strategic security studies,” the statement said.
The military also congratulated Acting Maj. Gen. Nyakikuru on his appointment and acting promotion, expressing confidence in his leadership as he assumes command of the elite force.
The Special Forces Command is a specialised formation of the UPDF responsible for strategic operations, presidential security, and other high-priority national security assignments.
