Police have arrested a maid who was captured on video torturing a four-year-old child in Kampala.
In a video which has since gone viral on social media, Precious Tumuhirwe, 34 was captured torturing the toddler in an incident that is said to have happened in Kikoko Zone, Namataba Cell, Kirinya Ward, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District on the night of December, 27.
The maid fled the scene after committing the heinous crime.
Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire said she had been arrested from Kabale district.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the victim’s father, Mr. Mwesigwa Michael, a 35-year-old resident of Kikonko-Kirinya, has been the primary caregiver for his children following a separation with the children’s mother two years ago. The suspect, who had been employed as a housemaid for four years, was brought in through a recommendation from mutual acquaintances in Kabale District,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said investigations into the incident have kicked off but noted charges related to aggravated torture have been preferred against the maid, adding that the four-year-old toddler is currently receiving medical treatment at Nsambya Hospital following the torture.
“The Uganda Police Force condemns all forms of violence, particularly against children, and remains committed to ensuring justice is served. We urge the public to report any suspected cases of abuse to the nearest police station.”
