MultiChoice Uganda, a CANAL+–owned company, has officially launched its broadcast of the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), calling on Ugandans to rally behind the national football team, the Uganda Cranes.
The launch was announced during a press briefing in Kampala, where the company reaffirmed its commitment to delivering world-class sports entertainment and celebrating Uganda’s deep-rooted passion for football.
Through SuperSport, available on DStv and GOtv, MultiChoice Uganda will broadcast all 52 matches of the tournament live, ensuring comprehensive coverage of Africa’s premier football competition.
The 35th edition of AFCON will be hosted in Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026, a period that coincides with the festive season and is expected to draw widespread viewership across the country.
To enhance the viewing experience, SuperSport will roll out a dedicated pop-up channel, SuperSport AFCON (SS AFCON), which will carry all tournament matches live. The channel will also feature extensive pre-match and post-match analysis. Matches will additionally be aired on SuperSport Africa 2 on both DStv and GOtv platforms.
Beyond Uganda, SuperSport will broadcast AFCON 2025 across English- and Portuguese-speaking Sub-Saharan Africa, with selected commentary in local languages including Swahili, Pidgin, isiZulu, and Setswana. Viewers will also have access to real-time highlights, magazine programmes and podcasts, alongside a 24-hour AFCON-dedicated channel.
Speaking at the launch, Colin Asiimwe, Head of Marketing at MultiChoice Uganda, expressed appreciation to customers for their continued loyalty.
“Our customers are the true heroes who support MultiChoice throughout the year,” Asiimwe said. “With AFCON falling in the festive season, we want to reward them with offers that allow more Ugandans to watch the Uganda Cranes compete on the continental stage.”
As part of the campaign, MultiChoice Uganda has subsidised decoder prices to widen access to its services. Customers can now acquire a DStv decoder at Shs25,000 and a GOtv decoder at Shs19,000, representing a price reduction of more than 40 per cent.
Asiimwe further announced that football fans will enjoy expanded access to premium sports content during the tournament period.
“From December 18 to January 19, DStv and GOtv customers will enjoy an open window across all packages, with extended access to SuperSport, including the UEFA Champions League, Premier League, and other top football leagues,” he said.
Nellie Mwandha, Head of Customer Value Management at MultiChoice Uganda, urged Ugandans to unite behind the national team, noting that SuperSport will provide full coverage of the tournament.
“We are proud to launch AFCON 2025 as the official broadcaster. From December 21, SuperSport will be the home where families gather to enjoy every moment of the tournament,” Mwandha said.
She added that fans will be able to follow every Uganda Cranes match, beginning with their opening fixture against Tunisia on December 23, and concluding the group stage against Nigeria on December 30.
“In addition to Uganda’s matches, fans will be able to watch all 54 AFCON games live on SuperSport,” Mwandha said.
Reflecting on previous tournaments, she cited the strong national support shown during the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“We witnessed how Ugandans passionately rallied behind the Cranes during CHAN, and we remain committed to ensuring fans can follow the team’s AFCON journey from the comfort of their homes,” she said.
